Hot Summer Days in Vegas

Stewart had a week of training to complete in Vegas before he started his third year rotations so we packed up the family and headed to "Mama" and "Papa's" house. We had a really REALLY fun time. During the day the lady folk and the kids played in the sun and in the evenings we played card games and watched movies. We stayed up too late every night and enjoyed every minute of it. Mom and Dad, thanks for always making room for us.

In Vegas they have all these fun parks that are completely shaded and have water squirt things. So much fun. Bridger called the one we went to "The special water park. With slides and swings." I am jealous that we don't have these parks in Reno.

Oh, and we ate a lot of Popsicles too! :)

You can tell these two are cousins for sure. Such dolls!

Benjie's first Popsicle! He loved it.

And Whit, she loves them too. ;)

And the kids verdict of their time in Vegas? "I want to stay here forEVER!"

"Y" I still got it

When I moved to Utah for school my freshman ward did a hike to the "Y". I got it stuck in my head that I was going to run it someday. It took me a couple weeks to get used to the elevation but soon I was running from Hinckley Hall to the tippy top of the Y every Saturday. I was in the best shape. I would power up not just the switchbacks but the long road and steep hills just to get to the trail head like it was a walk in the park. But soon it was Fall and with school and cold weather my running the Y stopped. I gained 20 pounds got married and for a couple years wondered if I'd ever make it back up to the top of the Y. After having Bridger I began training to run it but finding a free Saturday with us both in full time school and with a new baby it was hard. Just as I was starting to run/hike the Y again I found out I was pregnant. So after Angeli was born I knew I had to run it again to prove to myself that I was not going to become a frumpy mom at 22. I worked hard and got back in shape and ran the Y again. I found it was sort of too easy. So I started running from the creamery on 9th to add to the degree of difficulty. I wanted to run from Hinckely Hall again but I had some vein surgeries and we moved before I could. So two years later, living a state away, and another baby added to the mix I wondered if it would ever happen again. A couple weeks ago I told Stewart that next time we made it to Utah I was going to try and run the Y once more thinking that opportunity was really far away. But over the 4th we found ourselves in Utah. Keeping true to my word the morning of the 4th I woke up at 5:30 am, threw on my running clothes, and gave it my best effort. I thought I would not be able to do it. BUT I totally did it! And it was easy! It took me 38 minutes to get to the top. I got to the last switchback and realized I was almost there and sprinted the last bit. I was so excited that I could do it. After six years and giving birth to three kids I still got it! I haven't totally lost touch with that young totally in shape girl who met and hooked my hubby. And knowing that somehow means a lot to me. Knowing that I can set and accomplish goals that seem at best difficult, with many obstacles, and lots of potential excuses means something to this frumpy mom at 24. Heck, not only can I climb mountains I can run them.:)

Spooner Lake

We decided last year that every year we live in Reno we wanted to have a special day of hiking (one of my favorite things) and swimming (one of Stewart's favorite things) up in Tahoe. So with Stew's week off from school it was the perfect time. It was a great day. It was fun to think back to last June when we did this hike and I was pregnant with Benjamin. Last year that boy was like three inches long in my tummy and now he is 20+ pounds cradled in my arms. Life is pretty sweet.

*Sorry for so many pictures. I sort of went crazy and posted a ton of them. They really don't do justice to the prettiness up there. Just photoshop them in your head to imagine the beauty.

Lowbuget Camping Fun

So we have three kids three and under and have only a tent as camping supplies to camp with. We have nothing else. Well, we do have two flash lights...but yeah we haven't gone camping since I was 9 weeks along with the Bridger and I have been aching too go for so long but with endless school, lots of pregnancies, and no money to go we have not really made it a reality. But we really wanted to this week so we did, just in a really low budget way. We camped in our backyard and it was so much fun. We fired up the BBQ for the first time since we got it, did s'mores and everything, went swimming at our clubhouse, and then put up the tent and had a slumber party complete with watching Bedtime Stories on the laptop and making flashlight shadows. We had a blast. I can't wait until we can do it again. And with our backyard being so close I don't think we'll have to wait too long for that one.;)

My good look'n MAN doing his tent prep.
And no, that is not the setting sun that is his natural glow. ;)

Watch Out World...

He CRAWLS!
Yup, the boy has gone and gotten mobile on us. Now I must vacuum at the very least daily and go through all the toys and throw out all the tiny hazardous ones. Oh, and I must also marvel at how adorable my son is as he discovers his new found ability and independence. Time is really flying too fast.

Eyes the Target

Makes his Move

Touch Down

Enjoying his victory

Our Father's Day Happiness

We really like our daddy around here. ;)

Happy Father's Day Stewart!
Not only do you make some really cute babies but you are the greatest father to them. Thank you for being there for us and working so hard for us every day. One of my favorite times of the day is when I get to announce that "daddy is home" and watch our usually half naked children run to the door to greet you. Its so evident then that we all adore you and are made whole when you are with us. Oh, and we think you're pretty dang cute too! ;)

Can I Just Say Thank You

So our neighbors have been mean and all this drama seemed to pile up and my stress levels are evident in my lovely collection of pimples on my face but then miracles seemed to come together. I just wanted to say thank you to all of you who helped it all work out. To have our neighbors have so much animosity and bitterness directed at us was really disheartening but it was all washed away by the love we felt from our ward, our family, and friends. Everyone was so supportive in helping us move the fence. Last Sunday everyone at church seemed to care and that meant so much to us. We moved the fence today! Yes in ONE day! Can you believe it?!?! I think I am still in shock. I get to have my husband for a week! Heaven. The greatest miracle is that all the hatred from our neighbors brought about us feeling more loved then ever. Thank you.

A little ridiculous if you ask me...

Finishing up all the sprinkler work...

Miracle number two: I hit up some garage sales today and got some great deals and the absolute best thing ever...a BBQ for $5! I was about to go home when I said a prayer that I could find something for Stewart and then the next house I past had this really nice charcoal Weber BBQ just sitting out there calling to me. I knew that was a gift from Heavenly Father. It amazes me how the Lord seems to bring about these seemingly little miracles that are not needs just something you have wanted. It touches my heart to think that He would even take the time to bless us with those little wants.

Bridger showing it off. He is pretty excited that daddy got such a fun gift for "Fader's Day".

I am so thankful that Stewart's Father's Day will be completely happy and relaxing. The boards are over, the fence is done, he has a BBQ, with the help of my sweet friend I was able to get his AC fixed so he can survive the heat of Vegas this summer, he got a watch that he needs for his third year rotations (he's been waiting five years for me to get him one, poor guy) and I am cooking some yummy MAN food for him tomorrow! Could it be any better? So I just wanted to say thank you.

Thank you, so very much.

Count Down: 8, 7, 6 ...

Today is Stewart's big day. He is taking the Boards Exam starting at 8am this morning and 8 hours later he'll be heading home with absolutely no idea how he did. Lets just say I am counting down the hours. I know what a big deal this is for my husband and I am so excited for him to take it and have that feeling of relief and accomplishment you get when you know you have done your best and completed something amazing. He has studied over eight hours a day six days a week for over a month and we are praying and crossing our fingers that it will all pay off. How high he scores dictates a lot of what type of medicine he can go into and how good of a program he can get into so we are very hopeful that he will do well enough to be able to feel free to chose. Stewart wants to be an Interventional Radiologist - he could totally fix my veins if he goes into that, how awesome for me?!? Right now we are thinking a lot about UC Davis. It is beautiful out there, on the West Coast - thus near the greatest amount of family, we could be neighbors with Uncle Shaun and Aunt Sue!!!, the housing isn't too ridiculous for Cali's standards, and ....Oh, so me! Always jumping into the future trying to plan it all out. I guess we'll just get through today. ;) So my main point, Please pray for Stewart today.

Hey Bloggers

I can not figure out how to get my profile pic to show when I comment on people's blogs. How do you do that?

Thanks

Stormy Weather

It is rainy here in more ways then one. I am so tired. There are just so many stresses and disappointments these days that I am just emotionally beat. Luckily the Lord is watching out for me and tons of people are asking for me to babysit and to make meals which is a really really good thing. I don't have time to sit around and feel sorry for myself. So much gratitude there. But I need to share some of my heartache so I can cope. I know most of you disapprove of "sad" blogging but I don't believe in just sharing the pretty side of things.

So if you don't disapprove too much then you can bear with me. I need to write this to get through this stormy day.

1.) The most awful thing in my future is facing Stewart leaving. Today I told two new people about his leaving and as I watched and listened to their shock and horror for me and went through the list of "Well, do you have family around here?" questions I just felt tired. I know I will be fine but I also know this year is going to be one of the hardest of my life thus far. I feel it deep in my bones that this is going to push me to my limits and while I feel peace that I will find more strength then I thought I could ever have I also know that finding that strength will not be fun. I am sorry to be so negative but sometimes I just hate UNSOM. I really do. I like the schooling its-self but I hate "them" for taking what is already so hard on a family and then trying to make it impossible for us.

2.) I STRESS that all the houses in our neighborhood are asking about $74,000. We are so upside down right now it is ridiculous. I try not to think about it but two of my neighbors are losing their homes and I visited with both of them today and that makes it hard to ignore. I wonder "Is this going to be us in a couple months?" Sometimes I wonder why the Lord led us down this path when it seems like a giant mistake. I know that is awful but its so easy to feel that way when we cant afford to live here and we feel so trapped in Reno because of it. I just try not to worry about it because moving is years away and I am a firm believer in "everything will be alright" but the heavy burden on my heart and mind is there on days like today.

3.) Our other neighbors and us are in a property line dispute and when we finally thought we were in the clear it all turned on its head and now we are getting the very short end of the stick. It was our miracle fence and now it is feeling like a curse. We will have to pay them money that we really don't have and we'll have to tear down our fence and put it up again all over a stupid foot of land. I have been trying to not think about this either but we had to meet with the county people today about it and that sort of made it impossible to ignore. Then when Stew brought cookies over to offer some goodwill and to talk things out they totally yelled at him and called him mean things and thus made enemies with me real fast. Thank goodness Stewart is a total gentlemen or things could have gotten ugly. They'll be moving to their other home in Oregon after the fence stuff clears up and I have to say I will be relieved to have them gone.

4.) I thought we'd have a week together before the torture of 3rd year started but it is looking like our break will be nothing like a break. We will be dealing with our fence now and my silver lining of "we'll at least have that time together" has died a swift and painful death. All my fun plans are shattered and it makes me cry every time I have to think about it. Many many tears over that one.

5.) The board exam. My husband is so stressed about it. He takes his big exam on the 19th. Please pray for him. How he does determines a lot of the rest of our lives and his career.

6.) living in poverty is really hard. I don't think there is more to say there.

The best part of all of this is that preparing for Stewart to leave has put a lot into perspective for me. I mean its only a house, a fence, and money at stake here. And really in the big picture how much do those things matter? As long as we are close...even if just emotionally....I know we will be ok. And not just ok, we will be happy and good and able to have a little heaven on earth. I know Stew feels this too. We have sort of been noticing the little things and finding even more joy and peace in them then ever before. Like when we have a sunny day, or hearing our kids giggling together. Holding Benjie while he sleeps, teaching the kids that roses smell sweet, cuddling up while we watch a favorite movie, and sharing dinner together as a family are the treasures that have made us rich and our life full.

So, all in all I wouldn't change it. We have always made our decisions with a lot of prayer and so I know it is all in the Lord's hands. I am grateful I will be able to see how this will all work out. It will take some miracles I am sure. And while needing a miracle is not fun at all, being a part of one can be. I am grateful for our Heavenly Father and Savior who make it all doable. I guess even stormy days like today can still be the greatest.

Ok, thanks for those of you who bore with me. I actually feel better ...now I better get to my dishes. ;)

Some days I read this and laugh. Lord, thank you for the ride.
President Gordon B. Hinckley:
“I have enjoyed these words of Jenkins Lloyd Jones, which I clipped from the newspaper some years ago. Said he: . . .“‘Anyone who imagines that bliss . . . is normal is going to waste a lot of time running around shouting that he has been robbed. “‘[The fact is] . . . most beef is tough. Most children grow up to be just people. Most successful marriages require a high degree of mutual toleration. Most jobs are more often dull than otherwise. . . . “‘Life is like an old-time rail journey—delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed.
“‘The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride’"

Half a Year Already?!?!

Benjamin is SIX months old! I cant believe it. Half a year! When my babies hit six months it is always a big benchmark for me as a mommy. In my world a baby that is six months old is no longer a little baby. They are instead a GROWN UP baby. :) It marks the beginning of sitting up, crawling, walking, eating solids regularly, those first precious words, and eventual toddler-hood. The months since I had Benjie have flown by and I find myself wondering if I am taking full advantage of each stage my Benjie is in. Babyhood is so fleeting! Oh, I wish I could slow time down a bit. It is such a struggle with three young kids to balance my time and attention. However, they each have their special time with me. Nights are my special Benjie time. Daddy is home and on "Big Kid Duty" and I get to be my baby's Mama. Benjie and I cuddle, play, and talk until he thinks he's had enough of me and wants to join in with the big kids. ;) I wish I could give him more of me but I guess the gift I have given in exchange are his siblings and best friends. I think he thinks that is a fair trade. :O) We all love him so much and feel so hugely blessed to have him as our own. Happy Six Months Benja-Boo!

Benjamin's Sixth Month Achievements

-He has started all the "Da", "Ba" sounds and I love it
-He has TWO teeth! Such a grown up baby!
-He is sitting up un-assisted more and more, soon I'll be able to set him down and walk away unafraid of him falling and hurting himself
-He is scooting all over the place and getting around quite a lot
- Loves playing with his siblings. Bed/crib jumping & peek-a-boo are all time favorites
- Has the wiggles like crazy, hardly sits still to eat!
- Got his first major goose egg the other day when he fell off the bed :(
- Loves playing superman with mom...I love it too :)
- Loves tasting and slobbering on everything in sight
- Loves taking long (3 to 4 hour) naps...I know how crazy is that! and he still sleeps through the night perfectly!
- And loves swimming with the family...he has serious splashing skills :)

Benjamin's Six Month Stats:
Weight: 19.8 lbs. ( 85-90%)
Length: 27 in. (75 %)
Head Circumference: 17 in. (25%)
Cuddle-ability: 100%

Stewart's Dreams

My husband is a man of few wants. He doesn't spend any energy thinking about the Jones' or grand adventures, or hobbies he'd rather be doing. He basically loves his life and is content with the simple but significant joys it offers. However, there are two things I know he really wants. When he talks about them his eyes sparkle and he can talk about them for hours. They are Thailand and Dogs. I promised myself years ago that I would someday get him his dream dog and that someday I would at the very least send him to Thailand.

If today was someday I would get him "Riot". Stewart spends lots of his spare time researching dogs and today like many before it he found the perfect dog at our local dog rescue center. When I came home from my jog Stewart and the kids introduced me this beautiful dog. Bridger said, "Let's bring him home Mommy!" Riot really is a beautiful dog and he sounds perfect and I really want him too...oh, the dreaming. If only today was our someday I would do it for my Stew....but, until someday I guess knowing I want it for you Stew will just have to do. I love you. XOXOX. That being said, here's to Riot, Stews Dream dog.

"Riot is 1.5 year old purebred red tri Australian Shepherd. He is housetrained, obedience trained, gets along with other dogs, loves car rides and swimming. Walks well off leash . He is very shy at first, but when he warms up, is the biggest snuggler."....Hello! So perfect for us.
