SALE

Its official our house is up for sale. I have mixed emotions about it. But most of my mixed emotions are because its all so up in the air. Will it sell quickly? Will it take forever? We just don't know but it is for sale either way. I am trying to not wonder and worry since there is no use in it. I took pictures for our MLS and so I used them to make some collages to remember our little house by. Isn't it such a cute little house, humble yes, but cute.

Here are things we love about living in our home and neighborhood:
- Really nice neighbors
- Free preschool for 3 years olds and 4 year olds
- Great little school for our neighborhood
- We live right along the scenic Truckee river
- Right next to the Lockwood river trail park
- Great club house with gym, library, and pool
- Our annul dine at the dump ;)
- Living close to the mouth of a beautiful canyon where there are tons of wild horses to spot
- There is a fitness trail with outdoor workout equipment on it
- There are monthly social events
- We have a baseball field, soccer/football field, two tennis courts, and two basketball courts
- The front lawn care is taken care of
- Live right off the I-80 so you have fast access to everything in Sparks/Reno, no street driving
- 6 minutes away from Target, Legends outlets, and the water park
- They are building a neighborhood garden, will be super cool
- They are building a dog park
- Its quite and peaceful
- 24 hour security for our neighborhood with patrol cars and everything
- They have a community food bank twice a week where they collect surplus from stores and give the food out to the neighborhood, you can save $300 on groceries
- We love our ward, they really look out for everyone and are really down to earth
- There are 400 houses in our community and there is a small town feel as we are outside of the city...everyone waves and chats with each other and congrats you on babies and stuff.
-They have a senior center that provides social event, weekday lunches, and transportation to medical apt. and things of that nature.
-There is a community clothes and small item exchange store where you can get things for free and donate the extra things you no longer need
- We live next to the Lockwood trial and river access park where you have access to the river for fishing, tubing, rafting, and trail walking

And because the Middle Child should not be forgotten

Mr. Benjamin is is not your average two year old. He is so grown up. And he hardly ever throws fits. If he asks for something and I have to say no he sweetly says, "Okay, Mommy." What a sweet boy! When Bridger and Angeli were going to school and getting their back to school blessings he very much wanted to be a part of the action. Also, when I called Bridger and Angeli out on the front lawn to take their pictures he'd come too...see.

When the teacher came to our house to do there at home visit and evaluations Benjamin was right there too answering all the questions too. He doesn't do it in a fighting to be grown up too sort of way. He just assumes if they are doing it, so should he. The teacher was so impressed with how mature he was and how well he already knows his letters she said that as soon as he turns three in December to bring him to preschool and she will be really excited to have him in preschool with her. That is awesome.

He is potty training well. He goes in public bathrooms, and he goes both number one and two in the toilet all the time. But he gets sick of it or forgets so he only uses the toilet like once or twice a day. This next month I am going to take the plunge and we are going to do no more diapers. It will mean a lot of accidents and it will be tricky with the house on the market and with how often we are going going going places but its time, so here we go anyways!

His "back to school" blessing was so neat. We were sort of like, "okay, I guess you can get one too" and then once Stewart put his hands on his head the spirit was so strong. Stewart struggled to speak. He said, "Benjamin Merlin Rasmussen you are a very special spirit. And you have been sent to this earth for a very important mission. I bless you that you will be able to grow a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ so that you will be able to fulfill your mission. You are a blessing to your family and your strength is a blessing to your brother and sisters....." the words themselves were really cool but the spirit that was there was what was so very touching. It caught us off guard a bit and we were really touched. I later asked Stewart what his thoughts were during each kids blessing and he said when he laid his hands on Benjamin's head the thought that was the strongest was that it was a great honor to be able to raise Benjamin. I have had those feeling many times with Benjamin and so it was cool that Stewart felt them as strongly as I have in the past. I am so excited to watch Benjamin grow up. There is no doubt he was reserved for the last days....I am sure he is a great solider for Heavenly Father in the Kingdom of God.

Miss Angeli starts her second year of pre school

This girl is just so dang cute. I adore her and her temperament (think Piglet). She works so hard at being brave. I love watching her work so hard at over coming her worries and fears. She gets super determined to do whatever it is that she wants to do. Its like watching a little flower bloom over and over again. When Stewart gave Angeli her back to school blessing he blessed her with being able to make friends. I hadn't even thought about how this would be her first time doing something completely on her own without her big brother right there beside her. She was nervous to go to class without him and when I told her it was time for me to leave I could see in her eyes that she wanted to protest my leaving but she was determined to be brave. She gave me like five hugs and even two kisses on the cheek and Bridger was so sweet he gave her lots of hugs. When we were walking out of the room he ran back to her and gave her one last hug. It was so sweet. He is such a good caring big brother, he loves her like crazy.

But of course her being brave paid off. When it was time to pick her up she was so happy about her day and telling me how much fun she had playing with Katrina and Emmy...so sweet. The teacher said she'd be happy for Angeli to come four times a week since all the spots didn't fill this year so that will be awesome. I think this year will bring a lot of growth for her and I am so excited to watch her grow and realize how strong and brave is really is.

The Big Man starts Kindergarten!

Bridger started Kindergarten last Thursday and he was so ready to get going. He loved preschool so much he was dying to be with his teacher, and friends again. But as he reported after the first day, "you don't get to play in kindergarten." They do, its just nothing compared to preschool where every time they finished there projects early they were allowed to play. But he likes it. He is a lot like me in that in order to store boring old facts in his brain he has to review them TONS so this summer we did a little preschool with all three of my preschoolers and he finally got his letters and sound down perfectly. When Stewart gave him his "back to school blessing" he told him that he would enjoy school and that he would learn how to read and he would enjoy reading to his brother and sisters. In my minds eye I could picture him gathering them all together and reading them stories and being so proud of himself. And so it was fun that after his first day he brought home a little four page book we was supposed to read. It was mostly sight words but it was cute to start on that journey. They upped the expectations in Nevada for kindergarten and first grade so much that the kindergarten is a bit more like first grade and first grade is a bit more like second grade so I'm hoping it doesn't go too fast for the guy. But I am confident that he will be just perfect whether he has to work extra hard or not. He is so bright, so full of excitement for life, and can hardly wait to jump into every opportunity he sees. Gosh, I am proud of him and so happy for him to start the big journey of school. Life is good for Bridger, really good. Oh, and he came home with a list of things he needed for class and he thought he was so cool that he and I could go to the store and buy all the pencils, erasers, and all that jazz - he made me double check the list like four times while we were shopping. When we got home he was so proud of his stuff as he arranged it in his new pencil box. He felt so grown up and important. :O)

*this is his latest smile he does. :) he says he doesn't like showing his teeth. I am feeling sad that the other day he said he didn't like his face. I was like, What?!?!? He expressed how he gets anxiety when I take pictures of him. I think that is from me giving him a hard time for not looking at the camera (hardly ever) and stressing that "we want to look nice in pictures not silly" (always wants to stick out his tongue and jump around and stuff). That makes me feel so badly that he even has thoughts like that. So I am trying to reverse that. But he is so handsome and cute teeth or no teeth. I was going to be my excessive self and pick out his outfit and make him ware something that'd be extra cute and preppy, preppyness is one of my favorite looks of all time (I heart Gap forever). But I am trying to not be that sort of freakout over-bearing mom. So, I let him pick out what he wanted to ware. He did pretty good. I was glad he didn't pick out his shorts with a giant hole in the leg that are his favorite. ;)

Genevieve 7 months and counting

This girl just doesn't slow down. This month she has grown 2 teeth, started to stand with support, has perfected her crawl, and can eat solids with the best of them. When I took her to her six month check up almost a month late the doctor told me she looked so good that he didn't really need to see her again until she was a year. He said unless something odd comes up she is as developed as one hopes a nine months old to be so there really is no need to come in two months. And I couldn't agree more. Another mom from Bridger's school saw her crawl across his classroom and climb up to standing and start to try and steal a banana from another mom and she was beside herself. She said her one year old couldn't have done any of that. Yup, Genevieve is growing up too fast. It makes me a little worried about what mt life is going to be like for the next year. :) She is getting into everything! I think she is on a mission to kill herself. Some of her favorite things she does are eating dirt and rocks from the house plants, pulling the plants down on herself, eating food wrappers or scraps of food the kids leave around the house, grabbing the sharp knives in the dishwasher as mom or dad is doing dishes, and trying to crawl out the front door if her siblings leave the door open. We love her and her focused, sweet way she goes about taking on the world. :)

Last days of Summer: Las Vegas

So really very last minute Stewart asked for some days off since the doctor he was working under was the nicest man on the face of the earth and we jumped in the car and drove down to Vegas to be with the couple of siblings that were congregating there and to let the kids get hugs and kisses from grandparents. I am so glad we did. We had a blast. Probably the silliest thing we did was make a movie. We got talking about what all us siblings will be like when we are all really old and then it turned into a movie (its a Rasmussen thing)...I am not sure if we will ever let anyone see it and I am not sure if it'd hurt people's feelings but it was all in good fun and no one got hit harder then those of us that made the movie...Well, Ammons was pretty bad but he can take it ;) Kirsten, your set was the bomb. hilarious stuff! Anyways, we had a fun time getting all dressed up and filming these ridiculous scenes. We also went to a ward party at the splash park, went down to the strip and watched the fountains at Bellagio, went swimming at their fun community center with water slides and stuff, Of course a quick stop at the dumpster, I got to go running with my cute niece (that one is a smith thing), a group of us toured the really neatly built Alzheimer center in Vegas, the boys played racquetball, the Grandkids got Grandpa's famous "flipperunies" on the waterbed, and everyone but me got in a fun game of "volleytensocpong" ball (every Rasmussen knows I love playing that one) ;). Plus, we had wonderful food and conversation, and bonding time with Great Grandma Rasmussen. Very Fun times! Mom and Dad Ras, thanks a million times for inviting us. It was a perfect weekend. (I love How cute Great Grandma Ras looks in these pictures)

Last days of Summer: Lake Tahoe

So as we realized that summer was drawing to a close and that we hadn't made it to Tahoe we set aside an afternoon when we knew Stewart was getting off early and headed up to Tahoe. It was the perfect day. PERFECT. It was a fast drive up, the beach we full but not too full, the water was warm for Tahoe water but the day wasn't too warm, it was so beautiful and the kids were in heaven. We went on a tiny little hike around the the board walk and explored the rocks until the forest ranger told us to keep our kids close since they have been having problems with juvenile bears lately (freaks out the mom big time), and it was just so relaxing and fun. The entire time I just kept thinking about how much I will miss Tahoe. It has been my favorite thing about living in Reno. It is so breathtakingly beautiful and so close by. We will miss it a lot. I think it is the only lake that I would really truly swim around in without being grossed out a bit. The water is so clear and blue. We walked over to the little lagoon-ish area and the kids had fun jumping off the rocks and finding tiny little fish to chase around. Here are a ton of pictures:

Reflecting Back 4 Years

Yesterday Stewart and I set to work cleaning and packing up the garage in anticipation of our moving. Yes, June 2012 is far away but with our house going on the market soon there is no knowing when we'll be moving somewhere else so we are starting early. All the packing and cleaning got me thinking about the last time we moved.

Four years ago this month Stewart and I packed up our little family and moved far away from all the comforts of Utah to face the unknown. We were leaving behind : family, friends, the safety net of UPS and their awesome insurance, the security of a grandmother as a landlord, and that comfort that comes when you know almost everyone you will interact with will be Mormon like yourself. Reno was a stretch for us.

We were so excited. We had so many hopes for our future in Reno/Sparks. We were buying our first home, we had the cutest little "Irish twins" the world has ever seen, we were actually going to meet people as the "Rasmussen family" not the little annoying newly weds, and I was all geared up to launch my little hand print business. It is funny to me that the things we weren't worried about became our struggles and the things we were worried about were the simplest and most enjoyable things in the end. Heavenly Father is so wise.

Stewart loved his medical school and with a few exceptions of some characters in his class he felt at home there and made what I believe will be life long friends. I was worried I would have a hard time making friends since in my last Ward that had been a struggle but in the end I made a lot of really wonderful friends that I will cherish forever. Once we got to Reno we became desperately poor. I cant even express how scared I was with our financial situation. Then the entire economy crashed and our home that was sucking us dry was suddenly worth hardly a thing. My business which I was told would easily bring in $1000 a month brought in almost nothing. We had one little car and I was stuck home by myself in Lockwood (which means all by myself with no where to go) a lot and it was lonely and scary. Our car broke down all the time and that was killing us too. We were homesick and we were in over our heads. There was so much we wanted right then but we had to wait and go without so many things...I mean I remember having so much anxiety about buying shampoo. I was buying a $1.89 bottle of shampoo and I seriously was considering if it was a true necessity or not. Bridger was not developing like he was supposed to and he had to be evaluated by the state and started receiving home therapy and group therapy. We heard so many conflicting things about him and how serious his disabilities were is was such a roller coaster. It was tough times.

But realizing we were in over our heads we had to leave it up to the Lord to make things work out. The miracles came. Sometimes in little things and at other times in big profound ways. It was the most humbling and strengthening experiences of our lives to get us through those first two years of medical school.

Then we knew we needed to have another baby which was really hard for me to commit to doing...we were just so poor and our hands were so full already with the busiest most high maintenance little 2 and 1 years olds ever. I mean the Bridger boy would break out of the house regularly and I'd be running down the street crying like a mad women so scared to death that he'd get hit by a car before I could find him. But we went forward and had Mr. Benjamin. He blessed our family so much. For some reason having him qualified us for a lot of blessings. Things instantly were easier once he was born.

Then we hit the third year of medical school and Stewart was gone for four months of the year in Vegas. That was an adventure. It was hard but in a lot of ways it was a happy time. Looking back I cant help but feel so grateful for that experience. I think my love and appreciation for my husband tripled during those months of separation.

By fourth year we were ready to have some fun! But the Lord threw us a curve ball and we were set to have another little baby right in the middle of interview season. And her pregnancy was the hardest to date. It really took everything out of me. When I think back on being pregnant I still get nauseous. Oh, it was a hard nine months. But the girl was born and she is this happy little lady baby. She thinks she is at least two years old. She has been worth all the pain it took getting her here. When she was sick in the hospital it was hard. It was scary. I know she was protected by the prayers of her family and the support of guardian angels. I honestly could feel them there by her side when she was so weak. Looking at our girl now you'd think she was indestructible. She has this solidness to her spirit I adore.

Then came the match. Matching was really hard for us. We honestly felt a bit unsure about where we wanted to go. Utah in theory was great but it never felt right, Sacramento had been a high choice for us but then for some reason neither of us wanted to go there when it came down to it, and at some point during the time when we were supposed to make our list Stewart put Tucson as number two and that is where we ended up. To this day Stewart can hardly remember his interview with them...we know very little about their program or what life is like in Tucson but we'll find out shortly. :O)

This next year has been interesting so far. We've had some fun adventures, got spanked by the first month of residency, fell in love with getting pay checks for the first time in four years, are excited that Stewart will never have to go to school again, and look forward to our little man starting kindergarten this year. Bridger is finally going to get some real expert evaluations and then treatments if needed. Our once depleted neighborhood is now full of young families and our kids run around with all their buddies on cloud nine. I am retiring my business and hopefully will be training someone to take over for me. It seems as though everything has come full circle.

I cant help but wonder what the next four years will bring... I wonder how Tucson will change us. I wonder how happy we will be there. I am nervous. Once again it is the unknown and last time we moved it was hard. I hope this time it is a little less traumatic of an adjustment! :O) Bridger cant wait, Angeli is dreading it, Benjamin doesn't know what it really means, and Genevieve won't have a single memory of our Nevada days. But I will. I will always be part Nevadan. Its forever in my blood and I am glad it is.

So there's my reflection on the past four years. We're not only older and plumper, we are so much wiser. I found this little video that I made right after we moved here...oh, we were so young. And aren't Bridger and Angeli too cute! The other day someone told Stewart he looked like he could be in high school. Ha! If they could have seen us four years ago. Man, it'd be nice to be that thin again. ; )
